About This Service

What Is Learning Disability Support at Home?

Every adult with a learning disability has the right to live as independently as they choose — with a life full of purpose, routine, relationships, and the things that bring them joy. At Solace Prime Care, our learning disability support service is built around that right, and around the individual — their strengths, their goals, their personality, and the life they want.

We work alongside the person, their family, and their existing support network — always following the individual's lead and working toward the goals that matter most to them. We believe that independence is not a destination — it is a daily practice.

How We Care

Our Approach: How We Deliver Learning Disability Support

These principles guide every visit we make — without exception.

The Person Always Leads

We never do for someone what they can do for themselves. Our role is to encourage, guide, and support — not to take over. Every decision about daily life, activities, and goals is led by the person we are supporting.

Building Confidence, Not Dependency

Our goal is always to increase a person's confidence and independence over time — not to create reliance on us. We celebrate every achievement, however small, and build on it. Progress is gradual, consistent, and celebrated.

Consistent, Familiar Support Workers

Familiarity and routine are particularly important for many adults with learning disabilities. We aim to provide the same support worker for every visit — building the trust and rapport that makes every interaction feel safe and enjoyable.

Joined-Up with Your Existing Support

We work alongside families, social workers, care coordinators, education professionals, and any other members of the person's wider support network. Nothing we do should feel separate or inconsistent — it should all fit together.

Rights, Dignity, and Real Choice

Every adult we support has the same rights as anyone else — to make choices about their own life, to be treated with respect, and to be supported in a way that upholds their dignity and individuality. We take this seriously in everything we do.

Is This Service Right for You?

Who Benefits from Learning Disability Support at Home?

Our learning disability support service is available to adults of all ages across Sheffield and South Yorkshire — those with mild, moderate, or more complex learning disabilities; people with Down syndrome, autism, or other developmental conditions; adults living independently or semi-independently who need structured daily support; individuals transitioning from residential care, school, or college into adult life; and anyone who wants to live a fuller, more independent life with support that respects their choices.

“You do not have to be in crisis to benefit from home care. If daily tasks have become difficult, tiring, or unsafe — that is exactly what we are here for.”

— Solace Prime Care, Sheffield

Transitioning from Education to Adult Life

Moving from school or college into adult life is a major transition for any young person — and can be particularly significant for adults with learning disabilities. We provide structured, consistent support during this period, helping to establish routines, develop independence, and build community connections.

Moving Toward Independent Living

For adults with learning disabilities who want to live more independently, our service provides the scaffolding to make that possible — one skill and one confidence-build at a time.

Supporting Family Carers

Many adults with learning disabilities are supported primarily by family members. Our service provides professional, reliable additional support — giving family carers the breaks they need, and ensuring their loved one receives consistent care beyond the family home.

Why Choose Us?

Why Sheffield Families Choose Solace Prime Care for Learning Disability Support

We are a small, Sheffield-based team — and that matters. When you work with us, you are not dealing with a large national organisation where nobody knows your family. Our support workers are selected not just for their training and experience, but for their ability to build genuine, positive relationships. We are also experienced in working with the wider systems around a person — local authority care teams, social workers, SENCO professionals, and community health professionals. As a CQC-registered provider, everything we do is quality-monitored, professionally managed, and independently inspected.
